What we do

The Human-Animal Connection is a non-profit organization that brings people and therapy animals together for the benefit of both. The program is free for Veterans, Active Duty, First Responders, Health Care Providers and anyone feeling stress in the line of duty. These therapeutic interactions relieve stress, restore resilience and increase enthusiasm for life. This work has been presented to over

4,000 Service members.

  • Saturday, February 24th - Power of Presence

    • ​When we become present with animals, we release stress and are embraced by the sensory world of “nowness.”  Horses are masters at the art of presence, and we can learn by surrendering to their wisdom. The Power of Presence sessions explore The Trust Technique and Animal Communication.   • Saturday, March 2nd - Soothing Touch for Animals

    • In this class, you will learn seven simple soothing techniques, that you can easily use with shelter animals and those who share your lives. The class is on March 2 from 10 am to noon at The Humane Society of Southern Arizona (Conference Room A & B). The tuition is $25. Please click here to register.

  • Sunday, March 24th - Doing Nothing with Donkeys 

  • The Human-Animal Connection’s founder, Genie Joseph, was recently interviewed by Psychology Today and was featured in the article, "Simple Ways to Deepen Human-Animal Relationships." Key points from the article include:

    • People and animals are partners in healing; animals are not tools of healing.

    • When we recognize that animals have opinions and we listen to what they are experiencing, everything changes.
